Independent likes Galassi’s nonpartisan approach

As an Independent-voting emergency room physician, I see firsthand the growing mental health crisis and the urgent need for bipartisan efforts for effective community resources. That is one reason I support Kari Galassi for re-election to the DuPage County Board.

As an experienced CPA, Kari and two other CPA board members reviewed the DuPage County budget and eliminated waste and redundancy, and then used those found resources to develop new initiatives such as the DuPage County Crisis Recovery Center, which provides people experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis treatment in real time, a resource all counties could use and very few have. She also supported funding for the children of our lowest wage earners, providing free tutoring for schoolwork and SAT/ACT preparation. She understands that compassionate care and responsible government can work hand in hand, which it should, and that working across the aisle on initiatives that benefit all of our county residents is nonpartisan and necessary.

Like all of our elected county officials, Kari spends countless hours doing work that benefits us all, and I am appreciative. She leads with integrity, preparation and compassion. Her approach is nonpartisan, and as an Independent I look for this when I cast my vote. This is not a Democrat or Republican issue; this is about how we most effectively use our limited county resources to benefit us all.

I encourage District 3 residents to vote to re-elect Kari Galassi for another term and let her continue the hard work. — Katy Schmelka, Hinsdale
